Triple-Layer Meat Cake for Cats

Meat Cake for Cats

Want to give your kitty the best birthday ever? This triple-layer meat cake will not disappoint.

To help my kitties celebrate their brithdays, I decided to make them a raw meat cake. The trick to making this work is to help the cake keep its form. I used a 6″ x 3″ springform cake pan. As you can see from the pics, this is a nice compact springform that is only about the width of your hand.

For the bottom layer, I made a “graham crust” style of base for the cake by putting kibble through the food processor with 2 tbsp of lamb liver. The kibble I use is a primal-friendly formulation. (NB: I supplement my cats’ raw/primal diet with a little bit of primal-friendly kibble. They absolutely love it — if you look closely at the pic you can see teeth marks in the bag! It is like a huge treat for them, so it made the perfect bottom layer for their birthday cake). If you are looking for a good-quality kibble to feed your cat as a supplement to their raw/primal diet, I highly recommend the Acana brand!

If you don’t have kibble, you can use pureed chicken hearts for the base layer of the cake.

The next layer up is local grass-fed beef heart. Finally, the top layer is local lamb liver that is set using grass-fed unflavoured beef gelatin. The gelatin that I use is shown in the pic. (By the way, I do not get paid to promote any of the products I mention here.)

As you can see, my kitties loved this cake. Nebula is 18 and Catherine & Heathcliff are 4. Neb liked it so much she actually ate a full slice. Catherine liked it so much she was squealing while purring while eating. Heathcliff liked it so much he overate to the point that I had to take it away before he hurt himself.

  • Category: Paleo Pets

Ingredients

  • 1 c high-quality primal kibble
  • 1 lb cold lamb liver
  • 1 lb cold beef heart
  • 1 tsp. unflavoured grass-fed beef gelatin powder
  • 1/2 c water

Instructions

  1. Equipment you will need for this recipe includes a food processor, a kettle, and a 6" x 3" springform cake pan.
  2. Chop the kibble in a food processor with about 2 tbsp of the liver. Process until a crunchy mixture forms. Press this mixture into the bottom of the springform pan.
  3. Puree the beef heart in the food processor. Pack the pureed heart evenly onto the kibble layer in the springform pan.
  4. Puree the lamb liver in the food processor. Liver is quite liquidy once pureed, so don't skip the next step.
  5. Add the gelatin powder to 1/2 cup of boiled water. Stir to fully disove the gelatin powder.
  6. Blend the gelatin into the liver.
  7. Pour the liver layer onto the beef heart layer in the springform pan.
  8. Place the cake in the fridge to set (about 20 minutes).
